September 1st, 2009

nimbuzz-in-the-ovi-store

Although OVI store has not been launched yet in India nationally, the Nokia N97 has it preinstalled and all you lucky Nokia N97 owners who already have Ovi Store preinstalled, your one-stop IM needs are history. It’s just a matter of a little more time before the launch of Ovi Store in India this September and then you can get your hands on your very own Nimbuzz in Ovi Store. The good news is Ovi store is ready for download for your beloved Nokia mobile phones [Ovi Download link].

In the last year many of us realized that Apple’s App Store model was a huge success and with 1 Billion applications downloaded in less than one year, few can contradict this.

The idea spread out really quickly and soon after, big names of the mobile industry went in the same direction. Nokia, Google, Sony (and a lot more to follow) created a unique space for their users to find the best applications for their mobile phones. From what we can tell each of the stores is a success: App Store, Android Market, Ovi Store and also Getjar.com where Nimbuzz was the was #1 most downloaded application in US store last month.

Soon after Nimbuzz was present in the Ovi Store, Yash Maheshwar from Oviapplications wrote a really detailed Nimbuzz review that we are really happy to share with you: Nimbuzz – The one app to IM them all!

To our Nokia N97 users in India, do let us know through your comments if you were successful in finding Nimbuzz in your Ovi Store.

How does mobile internet improve quality time during festivities?

August 26th, 2009

festive-seasonpsd

This Sunday saw the commencement of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations across the country, thereby announcing the beginning of yet another season of festivities. With the holy Islamic month of Ramadan also commencing on the same day, Indians are looking forward to a host of festivals over the next couple of months including Navratri, Durga Puja, Dusshera, Eid and Deepawali as the case maybe. Do let us know if we have missed any of your festivals??

We know that a number of our Nimbuzz friends, especially those living away from their homes for study or work purposes, travel back to their native places to celebrate this time of the year with family and friends. We also know that a lot of those places are in far-flung areas of the country, where broadband internet is not readily available.

But your phone is and so is mobile internet!! Thanks to Nimbuzz, you can now stay connected with your friends and colleagues, sharing with them those special festival moments real time; connect with your friends and family outside the country and make them feel like they’ve missed nothing and if required even send your inputs to your boss as soon as he wants it.

Airtel slashes broadband rates.. When will mobile internet rates drop?

August 17th, 2009

banner_internet1

In a game changing move for the Indian broadband market Airtel has slashed the pricing for the unlimited 1mbps and unlimited 512kpbs plans by 56% and 68% respectively. This is Airtel’s second move in the recent past to redefine consumer broadband experience. In April 2009, Airtel had launched 16mbps broadband with tariff plans of monthly data transfer charging Rs. 2999/20 GB and Rs. 4999/50 GB.

The good times for Indian broadband users are expected to gather steam with more and more operators slashing broadband rates and bumping up speeds (Airtel, MTNL, TATA Indicom, and full list here). This is being fueled by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) indicating that the Government should redefine broadband services making it mandatory for operators to offer at least 2Mbps speed.

What are your views on this development?
